Wind turbines generate free electricity which can cut your electricity bills and provide a profitable income via the government's Feed In Tariffs (FIT's). This income is fixed and guaranteed by the government for 20 years for wind turbines, and what's more it is index linked so it will rise with inflation (and it's tax free for domestic systems).
Wind turbines harness the power of the wind and use it to generate electricity. 40% of all the wind energy in Europe blows over the UK, making it an ideal country for wind turbines.
Wind turbines use large blades to catch the wind. When the wind blows the blades are forced round, driving a turbine which generates electricity. The stronger the wind, the more electricity produced.
Wind turbines can be extremely effective but have a number of very specific siting criteria as follows :-
Wind turbines work best in exposed locations without any turbulence caused by large obstacles like buildings, trees or hills. As a general rule the higher the turbine and the wider the rotor diameter, the more effective it is.
To be effective you need an average windspeed of approximately 5m/s in your area. We have accurate database modelling that can tell how effective a wind turbine would be in your postcode. Simply send us an email with your address to mail@acisenergy.co.uk and we will gladly perform a data model for you.
Wind turbines should be sited approximately 50m from your nearest neighbour & ideally mounted 9metres above any obstruction that is within 100metres. Planning permission is required from the local authority to install a wind turbine system.
All electricity that is generated by the wind turbine is monitored and you receive a payment for this from the government via the Feed In Tariff scheme. This payment is guaranteed by the government for 20 years from installation & is index linked so that it rises with inflation. Domestic installations are also tax free.
With regard to wind turbines, the bigger the turbine, the more attractive the returns. You can make a return of approximately 20% per annum with a wind turbine costing around £250,000 (assuming excellent siting and a wind speed of 6m/ps).
